Case Study 2

Being the manager of the city, particularly with the Telecommunications Department, I can do lot of things to resolve such shameful occurrence..

I would go on hiring private and reliable detective or investigator that would police Mr. Terry Childs secretly in the first place. It is quite obvious that he had penetrated the system very deeply that he was able to set master password on the system. Yet, he had able to access the third party to the system. It is truly a criminal act and so he deserves to be stucked in jail. But, psychology might be of help. As a manager, I should find time to talk with this person so I could have the chance to interrogate him in a nice way that he could not even notice it directly. Expectedly, he might not feel like talking, but in the long run at least he could tell me some.

Since he was the one who has access to the system after setting the master password, I would suggest having a sort of bargain with him. I will let him name his price in exchange of breaking the master password. It might be costly, though, but seeing the entire system be downed and ruined by some indecent third party would cause moral and social conflicts and barriers to the city. But this, step is also an alternative. I could also hire new IT expert. Perhaps it takes long to break the master password (hopefully) but at least there is still a chance.

Mr Childs is a threat not just to the city as well to other institution. If he will be proven guilty, then the decision would be hiring someone new.. But if Mr Childs will grab the higher offer in exchange of setting the password, then it can be.
